Gina's People: Overcoming Spina Bifida

Posted: Updated:

Misty Diaz is hoping you get her message loud and clear, "Don't ever, ever give up!"

Misty was born with Spina Bifida, a birth condition that doesn't allow the spine to form properly. In order to accomplish simple things like bending down, Misty had to have 28 operations. Still, doctors gave her little hope. They told Misty and her parents that she would never be able to walk. They were wrong.  Misty doesn't just walk, she runs!  Every day, Misty is out there running with her pink crutches.  So far, she's finished 38 races, including half marathons and Spartan races.

She's hoping to raise awareness about Spina Bifida and to encourage others living with this condition.  She says, "You can do anything. You might have to do things a little differently. I do things a little differently, but I always finish what I'm doing and I always get things done."

After you watch her story, I'm sure you'll agree that Misty Diaz is a beautiful person inside and out.  If you would like to find out more about Misty, here are two links to her websites.
