Attempted Robbery At K African Grocery Store Caught On Surveillance

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia's Southwest Detectives Division is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect who tried to rob the K African Grocery store in Elmwood. The surveillance video from the store captures the whole sequence of events.

According to police, on January 17, 2014, at 2:30 p.m., an unknown female entered the store on the 6500 block of Elmwood Street and walked behind the counter, pointing a handgun at the employee and demanding money. When the employee told the suspect there was no money, police say the suspect left the store without taking anything and was last seen leaving the area in a tan Jeep.

Here's the suspect description according to police and surveillance: Black female, 30-40 years-of-age, 5'7″, light complected, medium build, wearing a black jacket, black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans,
