Greater Alarm Apartment Fire in Pasadena

A fire that burned through the roof of an apartment building in Pasadena today destroyed several units and caused nearly $2 million in damage, but no one was hurt.

The blaze in the the 600 block of South Pasadena Avenue, near Huntington Memorial Hospital, broke out for unknown reasons about 11 a.m. and was extinguished in about 20 minutes, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.

Damage was estimated at $1.5 million to the structure and $300,000 to contents, Derderian said, noting that at least three units were a "total loss."

At least five people were displaced by the fire, Derderian said.Firefighters resuscitated a Labrador retriever that suffered smoke inhalation, and animal-care workers took charge of the dog, which was "doing well," Derderian said.
