Family pet returns home after 5-month search

Good Day Atlanta's Gurvir Dhindsa tells a story of how one dog finally found her way home.

John Lewis' dog, Porsche, wandered away from home last year during the Fourth of July weekend.

"When I heard the fireworks I ran into the backyard Sadie was there. But Porsche wasn't," Lewis said. Porsche had run away from Lewis' East Cobb neighborhood. She was afraid of fireworks.

Lewis embarked upon a frantic search, posting posters all over the neighborhood and even enlisting the help of a pet rescue. However, Porsche was never found.

Lewis said "there would be sightings." Most of there were from around Roswell Road but they all turned out to be false alarms. Until one day a woman named Celeste called John to tell him she though Porsche was living in the woods behind her home.

Celeste and her husband built Porsche a hut, to lure her in. But she would only bark at the hut, she wouldn't sleep in it.

Eventually, Porsche did go into the hut however she was scared away, again, this time on New Year's Eve and once again during fireworks. Porsche wandered into another neighbor's yard who also recognized Porsche from the posters and earlier search.

The neighbor, Joanne Lengyel, then called the Lewis family and returned Porsche.

"They came in and everybody burst into tears, it was pretty emotional, but she was a New Year's miracle," said Lengyel.
