Haverford Township Community Address Recent Burglaries

Posted: Updated:
HAVERFORD TWP., Pa. -

Police and the community in Haverford Township came together this afternoon to address a series of recent burglaries.

Dave Kinchen spoke to residents who were concerned about the crime.

"I have two elderly people, my parents at my house. I worry about them when I'm not there" Ed Conway said.

That's just one reason Ed Conway joined dozens of other Haverford Township residents in a Sunday afternoon meeting with police finding out how to keep his house safe following 5 burglaries reported so far this month and 101 that took place last year.

"It was alarming to hear that there were that many burglaries happening," Conway said.

"I keep hearing about break- ins in surrounding areas so it makes everybody kind of nervous and on edge," Karen Beirberian said.

Haverford Police officials showed several slides detailing the break-ins discussing the challenges they face trying to catch the bad guys with often few witnesses and clues.

"It's not one person it's multiple people from different areas and different times," Chief Carmen Pettine said.

Officers telling residents they will have more marked and unmarked patrols…but be sure to do your part.

"We're going to try to prevent the burglary through patrols but they have to protect their property, they have to make it difficult for the burglar to enter your home," Pettine said.
