CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

With the plunging temperatures came a rise in complaints about dirty CTA rail cars in the last month. Tweets and emails from riders list a host of problems, from bad smells to dirt and grime.

The Chicago Transit Authority is blaming the condition of railcars this winter on the uptick in homeless riders during the recent cold snap, while the rail workers union is blaming staffing changes.

According to the CTA, trash and spills are mopped up before each run with deep cleanings every 16 days. CTA trains see about 785,000 daily commuters.
