Pro-Life Group Takes Offense With Girl Scouts

Posted: Updated:

A pro-life group in Texas has been advocating a boycott against Girl Scout cookies. The group has taken offense with the Girl Scouts' tweets and Facebook posts that recognize women who are openly pro-choice.

The spokesperson for Girl Scouts asserts the group, "Pro-Life Waco," has misinterpreted Girl Scouts' neutral stance towards politics and politicians.

"It's a very simple truth and it's very sad that organization attach themselves to our name to bring attention to their causes and then cause all this confusion with our membership and all our audience that's out there right now," said Lois Garcia-Baab from the Girl Scouts of Central Texas.

John Piscotto of Pro-Life Waco disagrees, "They should be honest about who they are. Their official position on the Girl Scout website is they take no official position on abortion. They take no official position on birth control. Yet, they endorse and applaud women who are known, their claim to fame is support for abortion."

Pisciotta is encouraging supporters to print fliers on a the website "cookiecott.com" to hand out where cookies are sold.

The group previously boycotted the products almost 10 years ago, but Girl Scouts claims their outrage backfired and actually earned the group significantly more sales than previous years.

"In fact I had a man that called and said I'm going to go out and buy 20 cases. There's 12 boxes in a case, so that's a lot of cookies," said Garcia-Baab.
