Mayor Duggan to launch snow plow complaint hotline

Mayor Duggan to launch snow plow complaint hotline

(WJBK) -

Mayor Mike Duggan announced a new process enabling Detroit residents to report unplowed streets.

Duggan explained if more than six inches of snow falls, three contractors are called in to plow a ten-foot path through the city's 1,880 miles of residential streets. Friday the three contractors reported the residential streets were nearly finished from the mid-week heavy snowfall. The Department of Public Works had inspectors on the roads to look for any missed areas.

"Sometimes some streets get missed, and so we want to make it easy for citizens to let us know how our contractors did. And if they missed a spot these folks are going to get right back out there," says Duggan.

If heavy snow falls and your street has not been plowed by noon, Mayor Duggan says you can alert the DPW in two ways:

+ Calling the ombudsman, Durene Brown, at 313-224-6000
+ Fill out the online complaint form at www.detroitmi.gov

Duggan says a 311 complaint hotline is in the works and should be launched around summertime.
