John Ridley: You Want Them To Leave With Snappy Bits Of Dialogue

Posted: Updated:

John Ridley says working on "12 Years A Slave" may have been the most rewarding experience of his life.  And not just because of his Academy Award nomation for Best Screenplay.

"For me, to have spent four years with Solomon Northup's memoir, to have this memoir that I was so unfamiliar with, (and then four years later to see) that people know about Solomon, that people know his story and what he went through to write it and tell it ... that's very special to me."

And as for the nomination, Ridley told Southern California Public Radio, "It means a certainly positive peer review, that people that I have admired since I thought about getting into film or people who have just exploded onto the scene they look at what I was a part of and they think it's worth rewarding. They look at what we've done and they think it's worth rewarding and that's very special."
