VENICE (FOX 13) -

Firefighters battled back a two-alarm blaze in Venice this morning in order to save two young puppies.

It was just after 3 a.m. when fire broke out at a house on East Laurel Road. The home's residents managed to get out, along with several family dogs. But the residents soon realized that two puppies were still inside.

Firefighters began searching the burning home for the missing pups and managed to find both of them amid the smoke and flames. The lucky dogs are undergoing evaluation.

Meanwhile, crews from Nokomis and Sarasota County had to be called in to help get the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of fire is still under investigation.
