While Most See White, Some See Green In This Snow

While Most See White, Some See Green In This Snow

Posted: Updated:

Many of us are desperately looking at the calendar, praying for a fast track to spring. However, for some, the snow means green!

These people have visions of dollars signs with every falling flake. FOX 29'S Leigh Scheps spoke to some business owners who say the snow is helping their bottom line.

You know what they say: "there's no business like snow business."

FOX 29 visited the inside of Collingswood Hardware Store. They've still got plenty of storm supplies and are ordering even more for this week's upcoming storm.

They tell FOX 29 that this trend is very unusual this late in the season. While most people have those winter blues, some folks are singing to a different tune.

"What do you have to say to old man winter this year?" asked Leigh Scheps.

"He's been really good to us," Bob DiBartolomeo, the store owner said.

At Collingswood Hardware Store, owner Bob DiBartolomeo is all smiles because 45% of his entire business is winter sales.

"Snow shovels, ice melt, rock salt, window washer," he described DiBartolomeo.

This year, the store sold double the amount of shovels they normally do. And these shelves used to be stocked with many more ice scrapers.

Compared to last season, the Haddon Avenue store is making a killing.

"Probably 300-400% more," Bob DiBartolomeo described. "Yep, pays the bills."

Harold Stuart knows just how hard it is to find some of this stuff. He's stocking up with another bag of salt.

"A lot of stores are out, big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. It's just hard to come by," said Harold Stuart of Barrington

Business is booming for those snow plow operators too. Owner of Warner Landscape and Patio sums it up for us in one word.

"No sleep," Andrew Warner said. "That's two words, I cheated."

This winter, his team's been operating on overtime.

"Compared to last year, I wouldn't say double. I would say 10 times more," Warner described.

Nevermind the money, like most of us, he's done with all this winter weather.

"I want 90 degrees and summer right now," Warner said.

However, no one's rushing to the islands just yet.

"Can't go to Hawaii unless you're going with me," Bob DiBartolomeo joked to Leigh Scheps.

"I have to work and put this report together!" she replied.

Until then, the hardware store will stock up on more sleds and blow up tubes next year.
