Burglar gets scared by resident during attempted break in

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A burglar forced his way into as northwest suburban home on Wednesday morning, but was ran off after being confronted by a resident.

The McHenry County Sheriff's office got a 911 call just before 10 a.m. Wednesday about a burglary in progress in the 3600 block of Burton Trail in unincorporated Crystal Lake.

The caller said they were in the home and heard a knock on the door, but did not answer it. A few minutes later, a man in a ski mask forced his way inside, a statement from the sheriff's office said.

When the resident confronted the intruder, he ran away eastbound on Tulip Street, police said.

He was described as a dark-skinned man, about 6-feet tall with a think build, wearing a ski mask and a faded dark hoodie, police said.
