TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie has issued a state of emergency as another major winter storm takes aim New Jersey.

Christie made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the storm was expected to reach the state. He also announced state offices would be closed Thursday.

The storm should drop several inches of snow, sleet and rain across the state, with northern areas getting the brunt of the storm. Forecasters say 10-14 inches was expected there, while central and western areas could get 6 to 10 inches.

Southern and coastal areas could see 2 to 6 inches of snow.

The state's Transportation Department has spent close to $70 million clearing the roads during 32 storms this winter. The previous record was $62.5 million for 38 storms last year.

The DOT has used more than 300,000 tons of salt.
