CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Illinois republicans have unveiled a new wave of laws to try to fight the heroin epidemic sweeping through the western suburbs.

The state lawmakers want tougher penalties for drug dealers and they want police to be able to seize more dealers' property.

The seized money would be put into drug treatment and education programs.

The lawmakers announced the proposals Thursday in DuPage County, which they said is "ground zero" for heroin use in Illinois.
