Thief Gets Trapped In Store He Tries To Break Into

Posted: Updated:

A burglar in Sandy, Utah gets himself a trip to jail after he became trapped in the store that he had just broken into.

Surveillance video shows the burglar on the showroom floor of Sierra West Jewelers going from station to station.

First he breaks into the watch case, then he breaks into the gold and sterling silver pieces.

"He hit this case and tried to get into it, but the shatter proof glass wouldn't let him in. You can see where he hit right there," said Tim Branscomb, the President of Sierra West Jewelers.

The suspect tried to make a run for it. However, he couldn't get out.

The video shows the suspect desperately and aggressively trying to break the glass and the front door to no avail.

Unbeknownst to him, an alarm was tripped when he broke in, so he was a sitting duck.

"We have two alarm systems and a lot of other things to protect the building," Branscomb said.

Police arrived on scene before he could escape.

"All he really did was make a mess and get arrested."

The thief surrendered without resistance.
