Russia United Party Says Less Homework More Olympics

Posted: Updated:

The winter Olympics may be dominating international media, but, for some kids in Moscow, homework is getting in the way of watching.

Members of the United Russia Party are proposing that teachers should cut the day short and give their students less homework.

The hope is for children to spend more time watching the games, and be inspired by them.

The 2014 games are being touted as a way off kick-starting Russia's return to athletic glory by getting more young people interested in sports.

School's already out for the winter in Sochi, with kids getting three weeks of holiday time while the Olympics and Paralympics are on.

The Russia United Party says their proposal is more of a suggestion to teachers to highlight how important the games are in general.
