Rare Alligators Arrive In Paris

Posted: Updated:

The Porte Doree Aquarium in Paris shows off two of its extremely rare new residents.

The young albino alligators arrived in Paris from Florida just a few months ago, costing roughly $55,000 each.

The baby gators are the offspring of a male and female that both possess a recessive gene for albinism.

Their unusual color means they would burn in the sun more easily, and their white color makes them an easy target for predators which is why they aren't seen in the wild.

It's also estimated that there are only 20 to 30 white alligators in the world.

The rare gators have yet to be named.  They are too young, the caretakers are not sure if they are male or female.
