93-Year Old Lindenwold Woman Terrorized By Intruder

93-Year Old Lindenwold Woman Terrorized By Intruder

Posted: Updated:

"I think it's horrendous," said Cathy Lopez. She's one of many neighbors one Fairmont Avenue in Lindenwold saddened to hear what happened to a 93-year old woman who lives on their block.

"I think the more vulnerable like her, she's elderly and alone and they do get targeted," said Lopez.

Investigators say between two and five o'clock Friday morning a man got into the woman's house and terrorized her. The intruder duct taped the victim's eyes and mouth, then cut the phone line and blocked the halls so she couldn't get out. Police say the man ransacked the home and got away with cash and a bank book.

Ryan Ferrell just found out what happened tonight.

"Everyone kind of knows she's one of the oldest in the neighborhood so it's surprising that none of us knew this happened until now," said Ferrell.

Investigators say one neighbor did notice something around 7:30 that morning. The neighbor saw a flashlight in the victim's window going off and on. The victim was able to turn it on after removing the tape from her eyes. That neighbor called police to go check it out. Some neighbors say the woman has been victimized before.

"She gets preyed on and it's so sad," said Lopez who's worried it could happen to any one of them.

"My daughter is here alone with her kids sometimes during the day and I worry about her after she'd told me what's happened to this poor woman," said Lopez.

If you have any information on the incident call the Camden County Prosecutor's Office for Detective Mark Wilhelm at (856) 225-8585 or Lindenwold Police Detective Art Walls at (856) 784-7566.
