CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Wednesday would have been Johnny Cash's 82nd birthday. Theater at the Center is paying tribute to his life through his music with "Ring of Fire." FOX 32 News got a special behind-the-scenes look!

Eighty-two years of the black. Eighty-two years of the fury. Eighty-two years of the music.

Nothing short of an unstoppable freight train of musical influence, Johnny Cash changed the landscape of country music for a generation of artists.

His music is now being used to tell his life story in the Theater at the Center's production of "Ring of Fire," and the stars of the show think he'd approve.

Good Day Chicago sat down with the cast on set, who said that despite countless films, documentaries and tributes, there's still plenty to learn about the man in black. The cast also said that despite some historic and creative liberties, die-hard Cash fans should still appreciate what the show can do with the music.

So while we will always hear that train of countless hits a'coming, who better to tell the life of Johnny Cash than his own music – especially on his birthday.

While the show features two different actors portraying the man in black through different periods in his life, the cast assured Good Day they don't need a third.

"Ring of Fire" is playing at Theater at the Center in Munster, Ind. through March 30.
