CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Thursday is International Polar Bear Day! The Chicago Zoological Society and Brookfield Zoo are celebrating the day by spreading the word about reducing carbon footprints.

Participating in this effort can help save polar bears' natural habitats. Climate change causes sea ice to melt, which the bears need to hunt their prey.

If people use less energy to heat their homes, they end up burning less fossil fuels - like carbon. This may be hard to do when it's so cold outside, but CZS is encouraging the public to do what they can.

The Chicago Zoological Society said they will help reduce their carbon footprints by keeping their non-animal buildings 2 degrees cooler.

Brookfield Zoo also shared some great photos of our polar bears having a great time on their day!
