VIDEO: Handcuffed teen in the back of DPD squad car still has gun

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit police officers missed a potentially deadly item after placing a suspect under arrest.

A teen from Redford was pulled over after failing to stop at traffic signals near Seven Mile Road and Outer Drive.

Police then arrested the teem for driving without a license. A gun was also found in his car.

But, police appear to have missed another weapon.

Despite sitting handcuffed in the back of the police car, the suspect is shown in video from inside a Detroit police cruiser pulling something from his pocket - another gun.

The suspect appears to have not been properly searched and also appears to have been left unattended in the back of the vehicle.

A source says, though, he was trying to make the gun disappear by kicking it under the seat.

FOX 2 has also learned from a source that once that suspect got out of the police car he was searched and the gun was discovered.

He has been charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon inside a motor vehicle, one count in his vehicle and the second count in the police cruiser.

A DPD spokesperson tells FOX 2's Andrea Isom the department will be investigating the incident.
