A new commercial from Save the Children UK is a powerful reminder of Syria's violent civil war and its impact on the country's children.

The commercial is edited in the "one second per day" format, which chronicles a year of a person's life with quick one-second clips. It begins with a British girl celebrating her birthday with family and friends. But as the video progresses, signs of an escalating conflict can be seen in the background, eventually leading to the evacuation of the girl's home; chaos in the streets; and shelter at a refugee camp.

The commercial ends with the sentence, "Just because it isn't happening here doesn't mean it isn't happening."

According to the Oxford Research Group, more than 11,000 children have been killed during the war in Syria. UNICEF says the war has created more than 1.2 million child refugees.

The video has been viewed nearly 11 million times on YouTube.
