Crews restore water to home of elderly Lincoln Park couple

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Fox 2 Problem Solvers get results for an elderly couple in Lincoln Park! Monday, we told you about Johanna and Stanley Laba. The 90-year-olds have been bringing buckets of snow into their home, boiling it, and using the water to bathe and run their toilets. After our story aired, the city of Lincoln Park finally took action.

Tuesday, water was restored to the Laba's home. More than 185,700 people viewed the original story on the Fox 2 Facebook page alone showing how the couple was forced to use snow for their bathing and plumbing needs. The problem went on for nearly two months.

FOX 2's Erika Erickson reports crews determined a tree on city property kept the water pipe leading to the home above the frost line. The pipe eventually froze during the harsh winter and blocked water from entering the home. The city originally told the couple it was their responsibility to hire a contractor to fix the pipe -- but, it was actually the city's responsibility.

Water was restored to the couple around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

After we aired the story, countless Fox 2 viewers sent emails, made phone calls, and turned out at a Lincoln Park city council meeting to demand action. Thank you to everyone for their concern and efforts to help!
