A 2-year-old girl found dead Wednesday in south suburban Lansing died from child abuse, and her death has been ruled a homicide.
About 2 p.m., first responders were called to the 17900 block of Wildwood Avenue for a medical emergency, the Village of Lansing said in a statement.
Jakarriah Patterson, 2, was found unresponsive inside her home, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:31 p.m.
An autopsy Thursday found she died of multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse, and ruled her death a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
DCFS is investigating Jakarriah's death, according to agency spokeswoman Veronica Resa, who would not provide additional details.
Lansing police are also investigating, but have refused to comment on the incident.
Jakarriah Patterson's family needs help paying for the baby girl's funeral. Donors can make contributions on the Patterson/Johnson family's Deposit a Gift campaign site. The entire family thanks the public for the generous donations they have received thus far.
