Spring arrives, so does new sod at Comerica Park

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Spring officially arrived on Thursday. And so did new Comerica Park's new sod.

Eight trucks carrying 176 rolls of Kentucky bluegrass, each weighing a ton, arrived outside the ballpark at 7 a.m., FOX 2's Roop Raj reports.

Crews will now spend the next 11 days getting the field ready for the Detroit Tigers home opener against the Kansas City Royal on March 31.

The sod was grown in Colorado.

This is the field's first complete resodding since 2007.
