ATLANTA -

A fire ripped through a southeast Atlanta apartment complex on Sunday afternoon prompting a 3-alarm response from firefighters.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Fire Department tells FOX 5 News that firefighters were called out to the Constitution Hill Apartments just around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. They arrived to find one of the buildings fully involved.

Fire crews quickly struck and second followed by a third alarm. They say the fire spread quickly through the 2-story building and jumped to a second due to the winds. About 75 firefighters spent the afternoon knocking down blaze and getting the fire under control.

Firefighters were able to rescue a dog from one of the apartments, but found a second puppy had died in the fire.

About 24 units sustained damage during the incident. The damage ranged from water damage to being completely destroyed in the fire.

The Red Cross will be helping those displaced by the fire.
