NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

David Velazquez, who spent a long career in the FBI before going into the private sector, has resigned as head of security at 1 World Trade Center, according to reports.

The New York Post reported that he was forced out because of several recent embarrassing breaches of security at the tower that soars over the site where the Twin Towns stood until a late summer morning in 2001.

He worked for The Durst Organization, which took over security at the tower in January. Two weeks ago, a teenager from New Jersey crawled through a hole in a fence, access the tower past a sleeping guard, board a manned elevator, and head to the top of the skyscraper.

The Post published photos of a guard apparently sleeping at the site. The guard, when confronted, said he was exercising his eyes. He also admitted to being blind in one eye.

Back in September, before Durst took over, three BASE jumpers parachuted from the building while a fourth stood guard below. Authorities arrested them this week.

The Port Authority Police Department controls security around the site and perimeter. The NYPD is also heavily involved.

A bicycle rental war is being waged in Central Park by Columbus Circle. Bike and Roll is a Parks Department-sanctioned bike rental with rental booths in the park complete with helmets and bouncer-size security guards. Bike and Roll's president says his employees are being threatened and harassed by non-licensed illegal vendors in the park while they hawk to tourists. The individual vendors, who appeared to be trying to rent out bicycles using pedicab licenses, were not friendly to us, either.
