2 Wounded In After-Hours Shooting At Northeast Philly Bar

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

We are following breaking news out of Northeast Philadelphia, where a security guard and another person were shot after-hours at a bar.

The shooting happened just before 4 a.m. Monday morning at Candela's Bar & Restaurant, located at Adams Avenue and Tabor Street in the city's Crescentville section.

The guard was hit in the side of the face. The woman was also hit with part of a bullet fragment or flying glass.

Police say it appears the gunman was turned away from the bar at 3:45 a.m., when the sports bar and grill serving Spanish and Portuguese cuisine is supposed to be closed.

"The male then picked up an object, threw it through the glass window. He walked away," Police Captain Michael Gormley said. "A few minutes later, he returned and fired a few shots into the door. After he fired a few shots into the door, the security guard was struck with a graze wound in the face area, on the cheek. And also a patron in there was injured. We're still trying to determine if her injury was as a result of a bullet fragment or a piece of glass."

Both people were transported to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

Police have released a surveillance picture of the alleged shooter. They said he appears to be a Hispanic male carrying a silver, semi-automatic handgun in his right hand and wearing a hooded sweatshirt with "1989" on it. They say he fled westbound on Adams Avenue, and they think he is driving a silver Honda.

There was a report of some previous violence at the same establishment a couple of months ago.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more details in this video report from the shooting scene.
