Queens Library kiosk is a portal for job search

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Eubie Chance is looking for a new job. And he's doing it at the Queens Library in Jamaica. The library has gone high-tech with a job-seeking kiosk from Apploi technology company, which is providing kiosk for free.

Trained staff at the library help applicants through the process. You put in your resume and then search available jobs. Companies looking for employees range from Staples to Giorgio Armani to Burberry to TD Bank. Once you find what job you want to apply for, you fill out an application and you can make a video as well, like Eubie did.

Your application and video are immediately sent to the employer who can view it right away. The library even provides applicants with ties if they need one for an interview. You check it out of the library just like you would a book.

Queens Library is the first public library in the city to offer this high-tech pilot program.

Thomas Galante, the library president and CEO, says it was a natural partnership with the technology company.

If Eubie's opinion matters, the program will be around for a long time. He says he recommends it.

Several beaches on the New Jersey and New York coastlines are open to visitors but closed to swimming because of high surf and dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the area beaches because of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal, which is expected to track south and east of the Jersey shore through Thursday.

The U.S. Open is underway in Queens and there's no denying that many of the players, both men and women, are in great physical shape and know how to play that up. Women are particularly promoted in the industry as attractive, fashionable and fiercely competitive. Does that help the game and draw more people in?
