An ATM machine in Maine makes a $37,000 mistake to a man in need.

It happened at this South Portland TD Bank branch, Thursday morning.

A woman was waiting to use the ATM machine called police after she saw what appeared to be a man using the ATM for a long time.

What she didn't know was that a homeless man sleeping in the corridor was having his lucky day as the machine spit out tens of thousands of dollars.

When officers arrived, they saw the man stuffing the cash in a shopping bag.

He had attempted to withdraw $140 from his own account but when it was all said and done, the machine gave him more than $37,000.

Lt. Todd Bernard of South Portland police explains, "He was using his bank card to request more money."

He definitely tricked the system alright.

Police gave the money back to the bank and no charges have been filed against the man.

A bank employee says it was due to a code error, but no customers were affected.
