Vandals, thieves targeting Warren storage yard

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - A couple says their storage yard has been repeatedly vandalized, and some of their stored items have been damaged and even stolen.

Rebecca Alexander says the destruction began when the zoning board in Warren had the business remove some trees lining the property, opening up the view into the storage lot. Since then, they say the yard has been broken into several times.

Alexander's fiance keeps equipment for his family-run concrete business at the storage yard near Eight Mile and Dequindre roads.

"People have been coming in. They've been stealing our batteries and our tools. They've been busting [car] windows, and I'm just done with it," she says.

A number of other contractors are said to keep their equipment at the yard, too.

The perpetrators are believed to be getting into the property by jumping a fence. They may have also cut a hole through the center of the fence which has been since closed up with zip ties, but the perpetrators keep striking.

At this time, why the trees were removed from outside the property is unclear. FOX 2 placed a call to the city's zoning inspector and is still waiting on a call back.
