Tigers pitcher investigated for sex assault

WJBK - Detroit Tigers pitcher Evan Reed is alleged to have been involved in a sexual assault March 30, the day before the home opener.

Detroit police confirm a complaint has been made and are actively investigating. They say they are in the process of interviewing the alleged victim.

Sources tell FOX 2 a woman in her 40s met Reed at a bar in Royal Oak, and the two ended the night at Motor City Casino. The two are seen on surveillance video there and were also spotted by dozens of witnesses. The woman was seen stumbling and appeared to be under some sort of influence. She told police she believes she was drugged.

The investigation is expected to take a couple weeks.

The Tigers released a statement Monday responding to the investigation saying: "The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed. This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an on-going investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ballclub to comment further at this time."

Reed's attorney, David Gorcyca, also released a statement saying: I was informed this morning that the Detroit Police Department has opened an investigation involving Evan Reed. We are very confident that once a thorough and full investigation is completed, Mr. Reed will have nothing to fear.
During the infancy of this investigation, no one should formulate any conclusions that a crime has been committed. Mr. Reed is currently on a 7-day West Coast road trip and has not been contacted by the Detroit Police Department. We plan on cooperating with the investigation when the time is appropriate. Until then, no further comment will be made by me or Mr. Reed."

This is Reed's second year with the Tigers. He was picked up by the organization off wavers on April 3, 2013. He appeared in 16 games last year and twice so far this season.
