Only On Fox: American Red Cross Wants Ambulance Company To Stop Using Their Name

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. -

A local chapter of the American Red Cross is calling out a Montgomery County ambulance company for using the Red Cross' name to do its business.

Finding the people behind the company hasn't been an easy task.

The American Red Cross is one of the most well-known organizations around the world.A name they've built for over 100 years, a humanitarian organization that helps people in disaster situations around the world.

"This company is abusing our brand," Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes, CEO of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross, said.

The American Red Cross sent a cease and desist letter to the Red Cross Ambulance back in 2012, but they haven't responded.

"When you see that Red Cross you have to trust and we're here to help without cost. This company is a for profit company and they have no right to use our name," Hughes said.

So Fox 29 went to the Huntington Valley office building listed as Red Cross Ambulance's corporate headquarters.

What we found was surprising.

An empty office and a desk.

And apparently weren't the only ones looking for the company's owner. The building manager was also looking for them.

"No, they literally moved out in the night owing rent," the building manager said.

Fox 29 tried calling and visiting listed addresses we could find on the company and its owner, but nothing turned up.

In the meantime, the American Red Cross is still demanding the "other" Red Cross drop its name.

"I think this company should be forced to stop using our name," Hughes said.

Although we couldn't track down the company or its owner, according to state records, Red Cross Ambulance does hold a valid ambulance license, but the address they're using on their state license we found out is a vacant
