ORLAND PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two teenagers have been charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct for walking into a southwest suburban school they did not attend, forcing a lockdown after a student reported intruders.

Carl Sandburg High School at 13300 S. La Grange Rd. in Orland Park was put on soft lockdown about 9:30 a.m. after two male teens entered the school "without invitation," according to a statement posted on the Consolidated High School District 230 website.

A student told staff the two were not students at the school, and a staff member saw at least one of them looking inside a locker in the south wing of the school, Orland Park police said in a statement.

The school was placed on a soft lockdown while police searched for the suspects, and the Cook County Sheriff's police bomb squad searched the building, police said.

The suspects told police they rode a school bus to Sandburg with a friend Wednesday morning, then entered the school and walked around for about 15 minutes before a friend told them school administrators were looking for them, police said.

The suspects, 18-year-old Ian J. Sipes of Orland Park, and a 17-year-old from Midlothian, then left the building, but were arrested about 9:55 a.m. in a parking lot near 135th and Southwest Highway, police said.

Each was charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to a safe school zone, criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, and disorderly conduct, a statement from police said. The 17-year-old was charged as a juvenile.

Sipes, of the 15100 block of South Harlen, will next appear in court on May 15 in Bridgeview. He is a former Sandburg student, police told the SouthtownStar, but the 17-year-old does not attend the school.
