KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect and a deputy are in the hospital after a shooting Sunday night.

Investigators say it started as a routine traffic stop in Kissimmee’s Indian Point neighborhood around 5:30pm.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is still on going and is currently unclear if the deputy was trying to arrest the suspect on possible drug charges or because there was a previous warrant.

Officials say Deputy Michael Maccallum, 30 pulled over David Ridge White who is a registered felon and sex offender.
Officials say Deputy Maccallum tried to arrest White but he ran away.

“They got into a physical altercation at which time the deputy was violently attacked. He fired his weapon, the suspect was injured. He was airlifted to (Orlando Regional Medical Center) in critical condition. The suspect is in the hospital at this time,” said Twis Lizasuain from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say Deputy Maccallum was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is handling this investigation.
