Suspect in custody for fatal West Side hit-and-run

Chicago Police have a suspect in custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 64-year-old woman dead Sunday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Jennie Davis of the 5500 block of West Le Moyne Street was struck by a westbound vehicle on North Avenue while crossing the street in the area of 5532 W. North at 9:40 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and police.

The vehicle then made a U-turn and drove away, according to police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

Davis was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she later died, Alfaro said. Police said Davis was 67.

Police said the vehicle that struck Davis has been recovered and a male suspect is in custody. Charges are pending against him Monday morning.
