9 hurt in crash on New England Thruway

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Several people were hurt when an SUV smashed into a wall off of the New England Thruway (I-95).

It happened at Exit 13 in the Baychester section of the Bronx at about 5:15 a.m.  It was unclear if the black SUV was trying to take the exit or simply veered off of the roadway.

Nine people were hurt in the crash, according to the FDNY.  They were all taken to Jacobi Hospital with serious or very serious injuries.

Video from the scene showed debris spread out across the scene.  The windshield was shattered and the hood of the vehicle came off on impact.

The northbound entrance of Exit 13 was closed for the investigation but no lanes of the thruway were closed.

You've probably seen Airbnb commercials extolling the benefits of homeowners renting out their houses or apartments to out-of-town guests for a fee. Sharing is caring feel-good commercials. But housing activists say Airbnb is reducing available housing in New York City's increasingly expensive and shrinking housing market. They argue Airbnb is pushing thousands of apartments toward use as illegal hotels instead of affordable housing.

We came to the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research to hear Dr. Chava Lapin -- "Bubby" to her grandchildren -- and Rabbi Shimon Josef Meller speak some kosher Yiddish, and to save ourselves from klutzily shvitzing, kvetching and schmoozing in search of the language on the street.
