Report: Dad indicted in infant son's death

Posted: Updated:

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - A former northern New Jersey man has been indicted on aggravated manslaughter charges in the death of his infant son two years ago.

The Record reports a Bergen County grand jury returned the indictment against 33-year-old Michael Marrara Jr. on Friday. He's also charged with aggravated assault, hindering apprehension and two counts of child endangerment.

The charges stem from the March 2012 death of Marrara's 10-week-old son, Andrew. An autopsy determined the child died from a head injury and also found old injuries that were in various states of healing.

Defense lawyers have claimed the death was not a homicide. One lawyer told the newspaper that a medical expert retained by the defense determined the baby had a condition that caused blood clots in the brain.
