ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

St. Paul police confirm a body was pulled from Como Lake on Sunday, but although they have preliminary information on who it may be, they will only say it's a man from St. Paul.

Police were called to an area near the lakeside pavilion at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday for a report that a body was floating in the water.

Investigators say they are waiting for the identity of the man to be confirmed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner before releasing that information to the public. The medical examiner's office is expected to release information about the man's cause and manner of death in the next few days.

"Maybe this is one step closer to getting closure for his loved ones," Howie Padilla, of the St. Paul Police Department, said.

Few details about the investigation are being released; however, officers did confirm that police searched the lake area three weeks ago as part of a missing person's case.

"It's a little unsettling," David Glass, owner of Black Bear Crossings Cafe, admitted.

Glass called police as soon as he spotted the unthinkable -- a body floating on Lake Como.

"You could definitely tell it was the top of the head and the hair, so I immediately called 911," he told Fox 9 News.

The cafe Glass owns sits inside the Lakeside Pavilion, and he was there when investigators were scouring the area last month.

"Police where here and they were in the lake for a couple of days," Glass said. "They were looking for a body. There had been a car that had been abandoned and a missing person."

So far, police will not confirm if the body belongs to that missing person, but Glass said he hopes the man's family will soon get the answers they need.

"I'm hoping this person didn't come to a tragic end by someone hitting him in the head and that it was just a tragic accident where he fell into the water," Glass said. "It's a very sad morning, but I'm happy the family will be able to put some real closure to this and give the loved one a proper burial and send them off to the spirit world in a good way."
