An 8th grade student at Bunche Middle School passed away on Wednesday, school officials tell FOX 5.
In a statement, school officials said Melvin Bussey was rushed to the hospital after falling ill and he later passed away.
Thursday morning Atlanta Public Schools (APS) Superintendent Erroll B. Davis released this statement:
"This is a difficult day for the Atlanta Public Schools family. We are extremely saddened by the loss of our student Melvin Bussey, who was an eighth -grade student at Bunche Middle School. According to our reports, Melvin fell ill in class yesterday and was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away. Emergency services and the family were contacted immediately, and the principal was with the family. Grief counselors will be at the school today and tomorrow to provide support for students and staff in dealing with this loss. We will keep the family in our thoughts and appreciate the media's cooperation during this challenging time for our students and staff."
