End of bar cars on Metro-North trains

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Bar cars are closing up shop on Metro-North commuter trains on Friday. The final train with a bar car was scheduled to roll out of Grand Central Terminal at 7:07 p.m.

The final trains running with bar cars will be pulled from the fleet and replaced with new trains that don't feature sales of beer, wine and hard spirits. The new cars do feature roomier, high-back, contoured seats with individual headrests and curved arm rests.

The railroad says bar car revenue barely cracked $350,000 last year.

Riders can still bring their own alcohol onto the trains. The railroad made more than $6,000,000 last year from bar carts on the platforms at stations.

There are rumors that the railroad is considering a plan to retrofit some of the new cars to reintroduce bar cars to the trains but no plans have been announced.
