ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A bomb squad with the Orlando Police Department has cleared the scene where a "suspicious" car had been investigated.

At around 1:30 p.m., officers were called out to Orlando Fashion Square Mall, where witnesses had reported that a rental car had been parked by a man who left the immediate area.  The man was located by officers a short distance from the mall, but he could not provide direct answers as to why he parked the car at mall or what was inside the car, according to a police spokesperson.  The man was taken to a mental health facility for evaluation.

As a precaution, firefighters evacuated a portion of the mall and an adjacent parking lot next to Macy's.  With the assistance of a robotic device, a bomb squad officer conducted an exhaustive search of the car and some luggage that was found in its trunk.

Four hours later, police deemed the vehicle and area to be safe.
