Small Black Bear Spotted In Abington

PHILADELPHIA -

Beware: There's been a sighting of a black bear in Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia.

FOX 29's Jenni Joyce reported Wednesday morning from the border of Abington and Philadelphia near the intersection of Pine Road and Shady Lane.

A wildlife conservation officer was out there Tuesday attempting to tranquilize and relocate the bear, but the little guy got away.

It's described as a small black bear wearing less than 150 pounds. Police say he poses no threat to the community, just don't go near him. If you go after him, there could be problems.

Police and wildlife officers will be back out in the area again Wednesday to see if they can capture the bear. A humane box trap has been set up to assist in the capture.

This may be the same bear spotted in Northeast Philadelphia over the weekend.

If you spot the bear, call 9-1-1 immediately, Joyce reported.
