Pet Peacock On The Loose In Missouri Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

Independence , MO- People in Missouri are watching and waiting for a peacock to come out of a tree after the animal escaped from its home and took off into the neighborhood.

All afternoon, people were on the peacock patrol, watching and waiting for Teacock the white peacock to come down out of a giant tree.

No one wants him more than his desperate owner.

"Baby! Teacock!" said owner Robyn Rush.

A worried Rush says her precious, 13-year-old pet peacock, wandered away from their backyard on Monday.

"I don't know how long it's been since he's eaten," she said.

No one knows why Teacock took off, several miles away from home.

"I think somebody tried to take him and he got away. Yep. He would, he never goes this far," said Rush.

Plenty of people in the Independence neighborhood got a peak at the white peacock.

Shortly after sunrise resident Randy Shelton couldn't believe his eyes.

"Came out back and looked up in the tree and there's a 5 ft. bird up in the tree," said Shelton.

But, no one could get close enough to the fast-moving, fowl to catch him.

"He can survive in the woods because he's a survivor," said Rush.

Rush did everything she could to coral her Teacock from the woods.

She pulled out all of his favorite foods, including cat food.

She even played sounds of a squawking female peacock off the Internet, but all of her peacock-catching tricks failed.

Again, Teacock got away and hopped a neighbor's fence.

And when two barking dogs saw him, Teacock took off for another tree where he remains.
