Shuttle driver uses his vehicle to shield hit-and-run victim

DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police are seeking a hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian on Detroit's west side.

Police say a man was walking across the street by Eight Mile and Greenfield roads when he was struck. He was left lying in the roadway while other vehicles were swerving to avoid striking him again, according to witnesses.

Keith Christian, a shuttle bus driver for the Center for Senior Independence, drove by the scene shortly after and stopped to help. He parked his shuttle bus to block oncoming traffic until police arrived.

He was carrying some customers on board at the time but tells FOX 2's Ron Savage, "Your job is one thing but just being a human is better."

Witnesses say the hit-and-run driver was a woman driving a gray Pontiac, possibly a Grand Am or a Grand Prix. The vehicle also had temporary paper tags.
