3 dead, 25 wounded in weekend shootings

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Three people were killed, including a 15-year-old boy, and at least 25 other people were injured in shootings across Chicago over the weekend.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 3 p.m. Sunday, when a 15-year-old was shot in the Kenwood neighborhood on the South Side.

The teen was in the 4700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when he was shot in the back and abdomen, police said. The shooting might have been a drive-by, police said at the time.

The boy, of the 1100 block of East 47th Street, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:11 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. His name was withheld pending the notification of his family.

A man died after he was shot late Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Kendall Floyd, 20, was in the 3400 block of West Madison Street when someone in a white minivan drove up and fired shots, striking him in his head and chest, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Floyd, who lived on the same block he was shot, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Saturday afternoon, a 32-year-old man was killed in the Austin neighborhood.

At 4:25 p.m., Charles Lee, of the 1700 block of North Lotus Avenue was sitting in a vehicle in the 200 block of North Pine Avenue when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking Lee multiple times on his right side, police said.

He attempted to drive away but crashed, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:04 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred on Sunday night in Englewood.

About 10:25 p.m., a 26-year-old man was in the 6500 block of South Union Avenue when an unknown male walked up and opened fire, striking him in the hand, police said. The man walked in to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care, police said. He was listed in good condition.

At least 24 other people have been injured in shootings across the city since 9 p.m. Friday.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
