Cooler than normal summer expected

Cooler than normal summer expected

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a cooler than average summer across the Midwest including the Chicago area.

This does not mean that Chicago will not see several warm spells, but on average, cooler than normal conditions.

This is not surprising given how cold the winter and spring were. More than half (11 of 20) of Chicago’s coldest winters were followed by cooler than normal summers (June through August).

Five Chicago summers following cold winters were in the top 20 coldest summers on record.

Seven summers that followed cold winters were considered average and only 2 above average.
