Only On Fox: Police Search For Suspects In Storage Facility Thefts

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Police say they are looking for suspects that hit more than a hundred lockers at a public storage facility in Southwest Philadelphia, and got away with everything from electronics to an ATV.

Security at the public storage facility at 70th and Lindbergh appears to be extensive with electronic security gates, barbed wire fences and surveillance cameras.

However, that didn't stop a burglary crew from breaking into 174 storage units.

“They probably were interested in particular items. They could move quickly on the street and make some quick money off it,” said Philadelphia Police Department Lt. John Walker.

Fox 29 has obtained exclusive photos of the damage left behind by the burglars, as they ransacked dozens of storage lockers, looking for all kinds of valuable items.

“We have an ATV, in one unit, electronic equipment , bedding, furniture,” said Lt. Walker.

Police believe the thieves may have broken through a fence at the rear of the site.

“They were breaking the metal doors down by striking them with the vehicle, opening them up. Some they got stuff, others they didn't take anything,” said Lt. Walker.

Muhammad Khan stores his personal items and materials for his business at the public storage facility. He heard about the break-ins. Now, he's concerned about his belongings.

“Maybe tomorrow it happen to me,” he said. “I don’t feel comfortable about that at all.”

One family was moving their furniture into a storage locker at the facility on Wednesday. They too were upset to hear about the burglaries.

Patrons and the police say they would like to see more security.

Police say the surveillance cameras were not operational at the time of the break-ins.
