Special Education Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student, 14

Posted: Updated:

A Philadelphia public school special education teacher was arraigned overnight on charges of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student, police say.

Stephanie Amato, 30, turned herself in to the Special Victims Unit on Wednesday afternoon.

The special education teacher at the Ethan Allen School in Mayfair attempted to hide her face with a piece of paper after she was arraigned and released overnight.

On Tuesday, Amato posted on Facebook a picture that shows the special education teacher mugging for the camera with several teens inside a car with the caption "fun with these kids.”

Another photo posted Tuesday says "my fav students."

Parents of students at Ethan Allen School were shocked to get a letter from the school's principal telling them Amato, a teacher here for six years, has been charged with sexual assault and seven other related crimes.

"The moral compass is just totaled destroyed. They should have some common sense and decency that these, our children, they are the future they have their hands on," said parent Marco Berry.

Amato is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old male special education student numerous times inside her car and in her Northeast Philadelphia home.

No one was there when we knocked on the door of the home Wednesday.

Nakia Carter has four kids at Ethan Allen. One of them was a former student of Amato.

"It's just disappointing when you send your kids to school, and you don't know what's taking place and you don't know who to trust," Carter said.

Police say the victim's father discovered the relationship and alerted school officials, who then went to police.

The boy was immediately pulled from the school, and Amato was reassigned to district offices during the 2-month-long investigation.

Amato has been suspended from the district with pay but may lose her job during an administrative hearing next week.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more details in this video report from police headquarters early Thursday morning.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
