Reward put up for missing Marines medal

Posted: Updated:

ONEIDA, N.Y. (AP) - Two donors are offering a reward in the search for a Marine Corps medallion that disappeared from a veteran's headstone in Oneida Castle Cemetery.

A $200 reward will be given to anyone who can help find the medallion that was attached to the grave of Lance Corporal Jeremy Lasher.

Vicky Arnold says she last saw the silver dollar-sized medallion on the base of her son's headstone on Memorial Day. She discovered it missing when she returned to the cemetery the next day.

Lasher was killed in action in Afghanistan in July 2009 by an improvised explosive device.

Arnold says the medallion was placed on the headstone three years ago by her son-in-law, who was with Lasher when he died.

The incident is under investigation by the state police.

President Barack Obama is going on a fundraising sweep through New York and Rhode Island as he continues to help Democrats raise money for November's elections. Obama headlines three events on Friday. Two in Westchester County, and the third is in Newport, Rhode Island. The New York fundraisers will benefit the Democratic National Committee, which is still paying off debt from the 2012 campaign season.
